Corned Beef and Potato Pie

Well, the anniversary of the blog was very well celebrated thanks to all of you!

Initially it was about experimenting with two very different types of cuisine, British and Meditteranean , but as time went on, it became more of an experiment with food and cooking in general.
I started asking myself what kind  of British foods had I been missing the most since moving to Italy.
The answer was more than obvious, pies!!

Ok, maybe not HIS favourite but the one we watch the most because...errrmm...its MY favourite!!

Ham Hock with Vegetables or Stinco di Maiale Con le Verdure

As we say goodbye to the Winter, I would like to share something that I have learned about comfort food.

Thursday, 18 March 2010

Vanilla and Cinnamon Creamy Rice Pudding or Arroz Doce

As I said in my previous post, the only thing Alex hates is rice but, strangely enough he loves Rice Pudding!
Whenever I make it, he has 2/3 helpings within minutes and can never have enough of it!

My recipe for Rice Pudding is slightly different from the traditional one.
I make it the Portuguese way, and that means a lot of cinnamon.

Creamy Tuna and Tomato Pasta Bake or Pasta Con Tonno Al Forno

All kids are picky eaters!
Even Alex. He hates rice for starters, he will eat it but, still winge, moan and groan at every mouthful!
Rice aside, he eats everything I give him.

Pasta with Italian Sausage and Garden Peas

There is something about sausage and peas that just makes me want to eat it.
Take a nice good quality savoury pork sausage and pair it up with some gorgeous sweet peas...what could possibly go wrong??

Winter Roasted Vegetables Lasagna

I am always paranoid about vegetables. Ok, let me rephrase that, I am always paranoid about not eating enough vegetables.
Or rather, I am always paranoid about ALEX not eating enough vegetables!

Wild Berries English Trifle and a Diabetic's Birthday Treat!

Last Saturday we had some dear friends over for dinner.
One of them had just celebrated his birthday a few days before.
I wanted to make something special for dessert, such as a birthday cake but with him being diabetic, this became an extremely difficult challenge.

A Fantastic Italian Foodie Experience

Let me tell you about one of my best birthday presents ever.

First, answer this question.
What do you give a foodie, who already has a pasta machine, for her birthday?
Answer: take her to a really good restaurant and tell her that price is no objection!
And that is exactly what the Italian folk did.

Chicken and Mushroom Pot Pie with a Mediterranean Touch

It's colder here than it has been in the last few weeks and that has made me crave comfort food more and more.

When I think of fresh flavours I turn to Italian and Portuguese cuisine but when I think of comfort food I inevitably think of British recipes.

Wednesday, 20 January 2010

Clams in Spicy Salame Sauce

Last Saturday, while I was waiting for the Italian Folk to get kids dressed, adults fed and beds made, before going shopping, I came across a gorgeous Recipe by the adorable Claudia from the Journey of an Italian Cook.
I couldn't stop drooling! The recipe sounded amazing so I told the Italian Folk that I just had to have clams as soon as possible.

Beef Stew My Way or The Humble Chef's Beef Stew

I know that January is supposed to be the month when we all try to be healthy, detox etc, but it is still cold and for  me January is more and more a month of comfort food.

Having cooked Portuguese and Italian for many weeks now, I craved British flavours, namely stews, casseroles and pies.

Tuesday, 12 January 2010

Italian Sweet Chocolate Salami or Biscuit and Chocolate Roll

So, I'm back at work now and trying to readjust to getting up early and not having as much time to 'play' in the kitchen again.

Baked Salted Cod and my First Trip to a Trattoria

So, during the Xmas break, we decided to go out for a meal in a traditional Trattoria.
The place was packed. There were two sets of tables with 30 people each at the least.

In a traditional Trattoria there are no menus. Someone comes to your table and tells you what the daily menu is.

Holidays Indulgence: Creamy Baked Cod and the Easiest Chocolate Mousse Ever!

Happy 2010, everybody!

Well, these holidays I was very lucky. The people I live with don't share the same passion for cooking. On the other hand, they love fish and seafood. So I was able to indulge and over indulge in my passion for cooking and Fish.
If fish wasn't so expensive, I would be a very happy Pescetarian.
